I was playing in a game with a bunch of coworkers when I was dealt A-J offsuit in the small blind. It had been a fairly wild game, so I limped in just to see the flop (that was likely my biggest mistake, you tell me).

The flop came J-J-6h. I checked, a player two seats to my left raised 200 chips, another player called, and I raised all-in. The original bettor called it, the other guy got out of the way, and we turned up our cards. The original better had Qh-Jh and he winced noticeably when he saw my Ace. The turn came 10h, which gave me pause but I wasn't too worried, until the river came 3h, giving him the flush.

That's poker, I realize that, but I felt it was a bad beat.

We play with a one time rebuy option for half the chips, and the blinds weren't too high and I had the deal next, so I did it. I promptly dealt myself pocket Aces on the next hand. Everyone limped in to me and I raised it three times the big blind. One guy, the cutoff, called it. The flop came Q-10-4 rainbow. The cutoff man bets into me, I go all-in with my remaining chips (which wasn't enough to scare him) and he calls.

We turn them up and he has J-10 offsuit. The turn card was the 6c, so far so good. Then the river card comes 10s, giving him trips. So, in back to back hands I got the two best hands I'd seen all day and was done.

This is the first time I've written to you, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for a very informative and readable website.

Tom Staurch, Tampa- I love it when I read how certain hands could only unfold online. This past saturday I was playing a single table at one of the local card rooms. $100 -$200 blinds.  On the small blind I look down at pocket 4's, there is one limper in middle position who has been playing rather tight and the big blind who has been very aggressive defending his blinds - I figure any raise will induce a call and I would prefer not to play 4's in early position so I just call.  The big blind calls and the flop comes:

4s, 6h, 5d   - Hitting the set and first to act - I decide to slow play and check.  The middle position limper checks out of position and the big blind then raises to $800, the middle position player folds and I push all in for $2300.  The big blind asks for a count and tells me that I pushed because I thought he had nothing.  He calls and shows 6s, 2s.  He was surprised to see the set of 4's.  The turn brings the 5s.......giving me the boat and taking away his flush and straight draw.  He is down to just one out.....and here it comes the 3 of Spades - for the straight flush.  A hand right off the internet plays itself out live.
